Captain America : The Winter Soldier (2014)

Captain_America_The_Winter_SoldierIt took 3 freaking years for this sequel to be released. I’d admit, this wasn’t a movie that I was anticipating every minute of the day, like how it was with ‘Thor : The Dark World‘, but I still was really excited when it was finally released. And as much as I enjoyed the first movie, ‘Captain America : The First Avenger‘, it didn’t leave a lasting impression as did the other Marvel movies. The same cannot be said about this sequel. Captain America : The Winter Soldier is a fantastic movie! Totally didn’t disappoint and made me wanna re-watch it the minute I stepped out of the cinema. πŸ™‚ Great storyline, fantastic action and amazing chemistry between the characters.

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, the ever so charming Captain America.Β captain-america-the-winter-soldier-captain americaGotta say, I love the modern costume much more than the one he wore for the 1940’s era, even though its missing the signature red and bright blue colours. Love how the scriptwriters and director made Steve Rogers a much more relaxed person as compared to his character in Captain America : The First Avenger and The Avengers. It’s nice to see him settling down and finding his niche in the 21st century. Even cuter was the fact that he wrote down things he needs to catch up on in a small little notepad. Captain_America_The_Winter_Soldier_notepadGuess he still hasn’t discovered the smart phone. πŸ˜› Also, it seems that, the director has decided to have different lists for a couple of the different countries/continents. πŸ™‚ I also thought the attire he wore to workout right at the beginning of the movie makes him look a tad more attractive than usual.Β captain-america-the-winter-soldier-captain america 1That is of course, before I notice the man-boobs. Lol! πŸ˜› Then again, he still looks pretty dashing. Any guy who can pull off a casual workout attire gets my approval. Haha!

Am glad that Black Widow has a big and significant part in this movie. Scarlett Johansson killed the part, as usual. In a good way.Β captain-america-the-winter-soldier-black widowLove the sassy personality right from when she was in Iron Man 2. In this movie though, I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but there seems to be some spark between Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers. Not sure what kinda spark that is, but it’s definitely something.Β captain-america-the-winter-soldier-captain america_black widowThey would make quite a good couple on screen, me thinks. Sadly towards the end, it seems that they’re just really good friends. So I guess I got the wrong vibe from them. Still, it’s good to hope. Steve Rogers needs a girlfriend. πŸ˜›

Newcomer to the Marvel family is Anthony Mackie who portrays Falcon (Sam Wilson).Β Captain_America_The_Winter_Soldier_FalconThe addition of the Falcon somehow added extra humour factor to the movie, which is a good thing. Lightens the mood in certain scenes and increases its ‘entertaining’ scale. So far the casting for Marvel’s movie has been pretty spot on, and Mackie seems to fit perfectly in this role as well.

In this movie, the supposedly dangerous villian, is actually none other than Captain America’s bestie in the 1940s whom until recently, he thought to be dead. Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier is played by it’s original cast, Sebastian Stan.Β Captain_America_The_Winter_Soldier_buckyThe long hair really didn’t suit him. Almost couldn’t recognize that he’s the same guy as the one in the first Captain America movie.Β Bucky_Barnes_(Captain_America_The_First_Avenger)So much better looking with short hair. πŸ˜› Oh well, I guess the long hair is to make him look more….. evil? It sorta worked I guess.

Hopefully there’ll be a third movie coming out, but so far, there hasn’t been any news on that. This movie makes me pray and hope for a third Captain America movie. πŸ™‚ It’s definitely one of the top shows released this year. Definitely top 5. I would say top 3, but I can’t really recall all the shows released this year, so to be on the safe side, top 5. πŸ˜›

While browsing for pictures for this post, I came across this behind the scenes pic that I just had to share.Β Captain_America_The_Winter_Soldier_behind the scenesI can’t help but wonder what in the world is Anthony Mackie doing. LOL! πŸ˜›

The Hobbit : The Desolation Of Smaug (2013)

The_Hobbit_-_The_Desolation_of_Smaug_theatrical_posterSince I saw the first hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey, in 2012, I was anticipating for the release of this second show. Let me just say, it didn’t disappoint. I took my mum to watch this movie with me. I was trying to convert her into a non-anti-LOTR mum, you see. Haha! She’s always exclaiming “Yeerrrrr!” whenever she sees me watching LOTR simply cause she finds the orcs and Uruk-hai gross. πŸ˜› And guess what? Mission accomplished. She still hasn’t really taken a liking to the orcs and Uruk-hai (obviously), but at least she now knows why I love LOTR. πŸ˜€

However, all that being said, I personally feel that, although both these movies (An Unexpected Journey & The Desolation of Smaug) are pretty awesome shows, they still somewhat lack that sense of epicness that the LOTR trilogy has. Maybe it’s the lack of epic mass-like battles, but of course this is due to the original story plots and we can’t really blame it on that, I guess. Anyway, it’s still a show that will keep you to the edge of your seats throughout the entire time.

FINALLY. We see Legolas back in action. I was ecstatic when he first popped onto the screen. LOL!Β The-Hobbit-Smaug-legolasHowever, I’m not sure if it’s only me, but I find the Legolas in The Hobbit trilogy seems to be more moody and arrogant as compared to the one who appeared in LOTR trilogy, even though both are played by Orlando Bloom. Hm. Do note that, even though Legolas seems to have quite a significant role in movie of The Desolation of Smaug, he actually was never mentioned in the book. He only appeared as one of the main characters in the LOTR books, never in The Hobbit. But seriously, I’m not complaining. πŸ˜› Haha! And I think this is the first time ever, I didn’t complain that a movie deviate from it’s respective book.

Another addition to the movie is a female character, Tauriel.Β HBT2-fs-140204.DNGTauriel was played by Evangeline Lilly. Loved that she is more of the tough fighting elf. It’s about time we have a cool female elf. Lol! Arwen (played by Liv Tyler) did appear like a tough hot elf at the beginning of the LOTR trilogy, but later on, she just became a little more like the sweet elven princess that she is supposed to be, which I feel is a little sad. Would love to see her show her spicy side. πŸ™‚

Anyway, another new face to the movie is Luke Evans. And I thought it amusing that Luke Evans and Orlando Bloom are in the same movie playing quite significant characters, because I used to think Luke Evans looks a lot like Orlando Bloom! Haha!Β The-Hobbit-The-Desolation-of-Smaug-lookalikeEven with one blonde and the other black haired, I can still see the similarities. Not as obvious as comparing Luke Evans to Orlando’s look in Pirates of the Caribbean. Luke & OrlandoOrlando-Bloom-and-Luke-EvanNo? Or maybe I’m the only one who thinks so? Hhmmm.

The voice of the dragon was somewhat captivating and a little mystical.la_ca_1217_the_hobbitI was wondering who voiced this magnificent creature, so I googled it. Lo behold, Smaug the dragon, was voiced by the one and only Benedict Cumberbatch!Β benedict-cumberbatch-premiere-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaugYes, the fella who is famously known for his work in British series Sherlock and also the villain in the 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness. No wonder the dragon good. What with the slight traces of posh English coming from this British dude. πŸ™‚

Overall, I would say that The Desolation of Smaug is even better than An Unexpected Journey. However, it’s still lacks a little something if compared to the LOTR trilogy. I mean I can watch the latter countless times and never really get bored. But with both The Hobbit installments, I’ll definitely watch it more than once, though there’ll need to be period gaps in between, like a couple of months or so. πŸ™‚ All that being said, I’m still looking forward to the final movie in The Hobbit trilogy. I’m almost sure it’s gonna be even better than this one. πŸ˜€

Thor : The Dark World (2013)

Thor_-_The_Dark_World_posterI’ve been waiting, rather impatiently, for this movie to be out since I first saw it’s first show in 2011. When it’s finally released last year, I was ecstatic! And I was not disappointed. Thor : The Dark World is amazing!

I loved the first show, but I this one’s even better! The storyline is great. Comparative to the first show, this definitely has more action, more humour and more focus on various characters (instead of focusing solely on Thor, Loki & Jane). πŸ˜›

Chris Hemsworth resumes his role as Thor (duh!) for this movie. I mean, look at him! No one else could really take that place anymore.Β thor-the-dark-world-chris-hemsworthChris Hemsworth IS Thor. That built of his body? *drool* πŸ™‚ I’m amused though, that time around, Thor has manged to get his hair groomed. Well, at the very least, it is more tidy, styled and pretty (yes pretty) than it was in the first movie. Maybe during his trip to Earth previously, he brought back some shampoo, conditioner and rubber band. Haha! Lame joke, I know. πŸ˜›

I seldom like it when guys have long hair. I usually prefer guys who have clean cut short hair, but I guess Hemsworth is one of the very few exceptions?Β "Marvel's The Avengers" Press ConferenceI’ll admit. I can’t resist this face. Lol! πŸ˜›

Another darling that I feel is irreplaceable is of course, Loki.Β thor-the-dark-world-tom-hiddlestonTom Hiddleston is the man. He is one of the very few villain, if not the only, that I know of, that can steal the hearts of almost everybody who watched the show. If you’re not charmed by him the first time, believe me, you will be when you watch him for the second time. Love how Hiddleston made Loki into a sassy, sarcastic but yet charming bad guy. And kudos to him too for gaining Loki, and himself, a fandom. Literally. He has his own fandom. Gosh. On a side note, when I tried YouTube-ing Hiddleston, I realized, he is every bit as charming, if not more than, Loki in real life. Wicked sense of humour, stunning impressions of various characters (I guess that just goes to further prove how good an actor he is) or celebrities (his Owen Wilson and Chris Evans’ impressions were spot on!) and always a good sport. πŸ™‚

Comparative to the 2 outstanding male performances, Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Jane Foster is a little bland.Β natalie-portman-thor-the-dark-worldJust a little, and that is if it’s compared to Hemsworth and Hiddleston. But overall she was convincing and I do enjoy her scenes onscreen. Gotta say, even though her chemistry with Hemsworth onscreen weren’t as impressive as that between Hemsworth and Hiddleston, it’s still pleasant and endearing to watch Thor and Jane fumble through their relationship. πŸ™‚

Funnily though, even though Portman is the lead female in this movie, but I find myself noticing the supporting female actress, Kat Dennings more than Portman herself.Β thor-the-dark-world-internsShe plays the geeky intern of Jane Foster. And although she may not look like the typical gorgeous girl in most of the movies she’s in, in real life, she looks pretty hot, me thinks.Β Kat_DenningsKat_DenningsShe’s like a cross between Angelina Jolie and Kristen Stewart. Lol! You may recognize her from the movie House Bunny and the series 2 Broke Girls.

In actual fact, the main villain in the movie are the Dark Elves.Β thor-the-dark-world-malekithBut obviously Loki managed to steal some limelight from them. πŸ˜› Still, Christopher Eccleston, who plays Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves, is very convincing in his role. Great job to the makeup team as well in making Eccleston absolutely unrecognizable. Lol!

One of my favourite scenes is the one where Captain America made a surprise cameo.Β Thor-Dark-World-Captain AmericaThat was like the unexpected icing on a cake. Awesome! Short and sweet and sassy! And again, look at Thor’s ‘commercial-ready’ hair. πŸ˜€

Then there’s the passionate kiss at the end of the movie between Thor and Jane.Β thor-the-dark-world-chris-hemsworth & wife kissBut here’s the secret that now everyone knows : The lady Hemsworth kissed passionately in this scene is NOT Natalie Portman but rather his own wife, Elsa Pataky! Story goes, Portman was in a different country at that time and couldn’t make it back for this scene. So, they gave Mrs. Hemsworth a wig and she played out this scene of Jane Foster smooching Thor. Aawww. How sweet is that? Lol! πŸ˜‰

Let me just say that, the twist at the end of the movie is making me very impatient for the 3rd installment of this Marvel Thor series to be released. And yes, I know, they haven’t even started filming yet!

Star Trek (2009)

StartrekposterAfter watching Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and finding out that it is actually a sequel to a previous movie, I just had to watch that first Star Trek movie that precedes Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Again, I wasn’t disappointed. Star Trek (2009) is just as entertaining as it’s sequel. Seriously, if this continues, I get a feeling I’m gonna be a big Star Trek fan soon. ;P But as it is now, I just enjoy both the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek movies. Kinda hoping there will be a third one coming out with the same main casts. πŸ˜‰

It was nice to know how it all started, not Star Trek, but the lives of the main characters. Being someone who watched the sequel before the debut show, I found it kinda amusing how Spock (played by Zachary Quinto) and James Kirk (Chris Pine) started off as somewhat enemies. Not actual ‘good vs bad’ kind of enemies, but rather those ‘high school cheerleader drama’ kind of enemies, in a very ‘Star Trek-ish’ way. I know my explanation is kinda weird, but you gotta watch to understand. It’s really highly amusing.Β STAR TREKTheir gradual shift from enemies to frenemies to being actual true friends is kinda sweet, for an action packed movie. πŸ˜‰ And I guess, their friendship is sort of the basis of these two Star Trek movies. πŸ˜‰ I gotta say, as dorky as Spock looks in that hair style, it’s actor, Zachary Quinto is actually pretty good looking in reality.Zachary_QuintoHe’s a little like a crossbreed between a rocker and a nerd, which I’m sure quite a number of the female species find attractive these days. No argument there. Definitely think he’s good looking, not too sure if he’s my type. πŸ˜‰

I’m glad to see John Cho who plays Hikaru Sulu had more screen time in this show.Β STAR TREKHe actually had an action scene where he fights with a sword, or something like that. It is kinda cool, coming from him, cause usually all he does is sit in a chair and pilot the Enterprise. Haha.

Was kinda surprised with the big name that was called in to play the villain. Mr. Eric Bana.Β STAR TREKI actually couldn’t recognize him until almost the end of the show. What with that bald head and those markings on his face, plus the fact that I’m never a fan of his, you can’t really blame me for not recognizing Bana. He’s always had such a pleasant looking face. Lol. But, all being said, he kinda nailed it as the villain.

The one that really surprises me, and this is only because I kinda have a celebrity crush on him (not as big as that which I have for Jensen Ackles, but still.. Heehee), is the actor who was asked to play James Kirk’s father, George Samuel Kirk. Took me almost half a minute to recognize who he is, maybe because at that time in 2009, this hunk haven’t shot to stardom and he still haven’t grown out his golden locks. πŸ˜‰chris hemsworth_star trek09Chris Hemsworth. *drool effect* Damn he looks good in short, clean-cut hair as well. He’s in the movie for probably only 10-15 minutes, but still, good looks don’t pass by a girl unnoticed. πŸ˜›

I personally think that this group of casts, Hemsworth excluded cause he’s just a really minor character in this movie (sobs), has the chemistry that makes the show great and entertaining. It’s not that often we get casts who works together and exhibit an invisible chemistry that can be felt on screen. I can name so many blockbusters where there’s literally no chemistry between the casts members. So kudos to the director and team for picking out these people.Β Behind-the-scenes-star-trek-2009-26472986-1437-809And yes, that dude in the chair is the mastermind behind the show. The director, J.J. Abrams. Somehow, I pictured him to be a bit older and serious. So, it’s pretty cool when I found out that he’s just this cool dude who has a creative mind. πŸ˜‰ Gotta say, if you think the casts looks good in their costume, check them out in real life. Even better, in suits.Β Premiere StartrekNot bad aye? πŸ˜‰ They’re not the typical, exceptional hunks of Hollywood (e.g like Brad Pitt), but there’s that little something in each of them that makes them somewhat attractive. πŸ™‚

All in all, loved this show. Loved the sequel too. I’ll definitely be re-watching them from time to time. And if there’s a third Star Trek movie coming out from the same casts and director, I’d definitely be anticipating the release. πŸ˜‰

Percy Jackson : Sea Of Monsters (2013)

Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-monster-posterBeen waiting for this sequel to come out for a while now. Even though it’s pretty entertaining, but it kinda falls short of my expectation. Not as good as the first movie, if you ask me. Sure, the visual effects are much better as compared to the first show, but, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was a much better show. At least it is to me. Maybe cause whenever we watch a show that is entertaining, we tend to expect the sequel to be even better, and when the crew don’t step it up, then it just seems like a disappointment, even when it may just be as good as the first show. Make sense? πŸ˜‰ A tad bit disappointed? Sure. Enjoyed the show? Definitely. I may be 27, but sometimes, I enjoy watching ‘teenage adventure stories’ like this. πŸ™‚

Logan Lerman reprises his role as demigod Percy Jackson.Β Logan-Lerman-Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-MonstersHe really doesn’t look like the typical Hollywood ‘demigod type’ of actor. I mean, look at the people who’ve played Hercules, Achilles, Perseus, etc etc. Even though this is set in a demigod’s teenage years, I would have expected the casting director to pick a more muscular teen. But, somehow, someway, Lerman just fits into this role really well. Even from the very start in the first show. I actually like it how it gives us a new perspective that demigods can have a normal person’s body as well, and not every one of them owns a body like a Greek god. πŸ˜‰ I personally think Lerman looks better with slightly longer hair though (like those in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief), as compared to the much shorted crop he sport in this sequel. Just my personal opinion.

Brandon T. Jackson also reprises his role as Percy’s protector, Grover the satyr.percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-brandon-groverAlways with that comedic side. Even though he’s not the main character, I think the show would be a tad bit boring without him and his humour.

Female lead is Alexandra Daddario, as Athena’s demigod daughter, Annabeth.Stars On The Set Of 'Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters'Or at least I think she still is the female lead, since she was one of the lead in the first show. Reprising her role as Athena’s daughter, I don’t understand why they make her blonde this time, when in the first movie, she was a brunette.Β percy-jackson-lightning-thief-annabethAnd she looks so much better and prettier as a brunette. The brown hair makes her blue eyes pop. Another thing is, her character is less prominent in this movie. As a matter of fact, it kinda falls flat as compared to a few others. I loved Annabeth in the first show, but this time? I just find her a tad bit bordering on annoying. And there’s barely any room in the movie for her to exhibit her natural talent, wisdom. She is the daughter of Athena, goddess of Wisdom and War Strategy, after all. Oh well.

Jake Abel return as Luke, the demigod son of Hermes. Also, good boy turned bad.Β percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-jake-abelHere in the sequel, I think he lost too much weight, to the point that his face actually looks a little sunken. Totally unflattering. Even his bod looks a little bit skinny, for men’s Hollywood standard. πŸ˜‰ Β I remember thinking that he’s the cutest one among all the other casts in the first movie, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.percy-jackson-lightning thief-jake-abelEven during his days acting in Supernatural (yes, he was the 3rd Winchester brother, Adam, who ended up being locked in Lucifer’s cage with Lucifer and Michael), he still looked somewhat cute.supernatural-jake-abeladam-dean-and-samI just can’t resist posting the picture above, since it consists of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. Teehee! But yeah, Jake Abel was the 3rd and youngest brother of the Winchester siblings. As cute as he was last time in the first Percy Jackson movie, I still think that he does the bad guy pretty well. Not particularly perfect for the role, but at least its believable. And now with his new sunken-face look? Well, I guess it helps with the role. πŸ˜‰ Though, I would really prefer his old look. Huh. πŸ™‚

The two main newcomers to the movie are Levan Rambin and Douglas Smith. Levan Rambin plays the demigod daughter of Ares, the god of war.Β percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-leven-rambinShe’s kinda annoying at the beginning of the show, but towards the end, you’ll find that she’s not too bad after all. I mean, what do you expect from the daughter of the god of war? Big ego, of course. (On a side note : Though not as big as someone I know who’s really so full of himself. Smirk. *bitchy moment*) Even though the picture doesn’t show it, but Rambin’s character kinda reminds me a little of Lea Michele of Glee.Β 0813-lea_michele_bdAlso with a dash of Scottish actress Georgia King who plays Harriet in Wild Child (2008).Β Georgia-King---2013-Paley-Television-Festival-03Somehow, someway, with Rambin’s brunette hair in this movie, I feel she resembles King a little, minus King’s blonde hair, of course. πŸ˜‰ But Levan Rambin with blonde hair is a total different story. She actually looks pretty hot in blonde.Β LevenRambinSweet too, me thinks. πŸ˜‰

Douglas Smith on the other hand plays Tyson, the son of Poseidon, god of the seas, and a cyclops. Weird. Haha.Β percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-tysonThen again, he does look weird with one eye. Huh. But right from the start of the show, Smith’s character, Tyson, who is very innocently naive is very likable. You just can’t help but go ‘aawwwww’ when he says the cheesiest and sweetest thing. And he actually has quite a pleasant likable face when he has his two eyes.Β Percy Jackson: Sea of MonstersA very sweet face and smile if I may say so. Not those good looking, hot type, but just pleasant ans sweet. The type of smile that naturally induces another smile. Haha. And I actually googled what he looks like normally and seriously? Not bad at all.Β Douglas+Smith+Percy Jackson Sea Of MonsterNot your typical hot good looking Hollywood actor, but there’s just something about him that makes him really likable and his looks appearing pretty good. Though, I still haven’t learn to appreciate curly hair on guys. Lol!

I thought the most impressive scene in the entire movie was the sea monster scene.Β Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-Monsters-seamonsterI actually took a deep breath when I saw this. Pretty impressive, no? For a teenage movie, of course. Haha.

Overall, even though not as good as expected, this show is definitely entertaining and exciting enough for me to rewatched it, now and then. πŸ˜‰

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

StarTrekIntoDarkness_FinalUSPosterReally never a fan of Star Trek. Trust me. I’m not even neutral about it. I’m just plain not interested whenever I hear Star Trek. But this time around, I decided to give it a try cause there’s been really good reviews……. from friends. πŸ˜‰ Not movie critics but just my friends. Even those who’re like me, uninterested in Star Trek left the cinema loving the show. So yeah, I really just can’t give it up, can I? Lol! Let me just get this out of the way and say, I absolutely enjoyed the show. Seriously. It made me wanna go search out all the previous Star Trek movies and watch them. I think it’s even better than Iron Man 3. I also think it’s great that in this show, even when they do have specific lead character, they actually managed to spread out the focus on all the different characters instead of focusing on Β the 2 or 3 main casts only, which is what almost every other movies do.

Now I’ve never been a fan of Chris Pine, and I really rarely notices him in movies, but I thought he did an averagely good job here. Bare in mind, I didn’t watch Star Trek (2009).Β Chris-Pine-in-Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-2013-Movie-Image4Supposedly (I’ll tell you why I used the word ‘supposedly’) the main character, Captain James Kirk, Pine plays it with style, in my opinion. Love the character’s sarcasm and humour. Being a typical girl, I’ll say that having a pretty good looking main character usually adds some plus points into the movie, however little it might be. Though, good looking he may be, and I totally agree with that, I’m just not attracted to him. πŸ˜‰

I thought the character Spock, played by Zachary Quinto is hilarious, as much as his character is the contrary. πŸ˜‰Zachary-Quinto-in-Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-2013-Movie-Image-21That hair! OMG. Lol! Bare in mind this is a person who’s never watched Star Trek before, hence the fashion sometimes throws me off guard. Haha. Quinto did a great job keeping a straight face and almost robotic voice. Emotionless, apparently. Haha.

Now the robotic alien above, have a girlfriend. Yup. As emotionless as he is, he does. Actress Zoe Zaldana plays Spock’s lover, Nyota Uhura.Star-Trek-into-Darkness-zoe-saldanaI actually find her pretty attractive. Not to me, of course, but generally as a lady. The confidence, the physical beauty and the look of a lady with character. Plus, she does tough chick pretty well. Hm. πŸ˜‰

I was wondering why this fella looks so familiar. Nicknamed Bones, nicely portrayed by Karl Urban.Β Karl-Urban-as-Doctor-Leonard-McCoy-Bones-in-Star-Trek-Into-DarknessSo I decided to look it up, since he looks familiar but yet I find it so hard to recognize. Given that I watched Lord Of The Rings countless times, it’s no wonder the face of Eomer, yes Eomer, would still look familiar after so many years!Β Eomer_at_the_coronationYes! Karl Urban is Eomer! Gosh! He looks so different with short dark brown hair and no beard. Lol! So different but yet, familiar! πŸ™‚

It was nice to watch Simon Pegg in his niche. I find his roles are usually somewhat similar.Β star-trek-into-darkness-simon-peggOr at least the way Pegg plays Scotty is similar to the way he plays Benji in Mission : Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Very similar.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw John Cho in the movie. Again, let me just say, this is my first Star Trek movie (I’ve never even touched the series) ever.Β So, I really have no idea who acted in the previous movies.Β star_trek_into_darkness-john_choI know this angle doesn’t really do his looks much justice, but, if you watch the movies, he really doesn’t age much. The first time I saw him on screen was in one of the episodes in the cult series Charmed. I kinda like his character in this movie. Though it may not be the lead, but he still manages to shine a little and get the audiences’ attention, which I think is a great job done. It’s not easy for people to notice you if you’re not one of the lead characters, specially in big ass blockbusters. πŸ˜‰

But if you ask me, the real star of this show, the one who stole all the limelight and attention, the one who shone like he’s a whole level above theAppearanceΒ rest is none other than English actor Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the superhuman villain, Khan.Β star trek into darkness benedict cumberbatchSuperb performance! He was so captivating throughout the movie. Every time he appears on screen, I’m pretty sure almost everyone’s attention is just drawn to him. I can’t help wishing that he’s the good guy disguised as the villain, but, oh well. Anyway, I still find myself liking his character at the end of the show even though he’s the bad guy. πŸ˜‰ And I gotta say, based onΒ all the pictures I’ve seen of him in the series Sherlock, posted by fans, and pictures of him during public appearances, he really suits this jet black short cropped hair the best.Β star-trek-into-the-darkness-benedict-cumberbatchReally gives him an air of mysteriousness. I’m really somewhat charmed by Cumberbatch’s performance (and looks) in this show. πŸ˜€ But seriously, awesome job on his part! πŸ˜‰

Now I’m going around to see if I can get myself a copy of the 2009 Star Trek. This movie has sparked my interest. πŸ˜‰ I’d definitely get a copy of this so I can watch it as and when I want. πŸ™‚

Jack The Giant Slayer (2013)

Jack_the_Giant_Slayer_posterI was curious how this would turn out. Another childhood fairy tale turned into movie with modifications to the story line. I thoughts Disney’s ‘Tangled’ was a success, while the Johnny Depp starring ‘Alice In Wonderland’ was a flop. So I was kinda keeping my fingers crossed that this would be good. I mean, I don’t want all my childhood fairy tales destroyed by some crazy Hollywood producer who think it’d be funny to modify the storyline and add an edge to them. If it works, great. But when it crashes, it crashes bad. However, guess I don’t need to worry much for Jack The Giant Slayer cause it’s a success! πŸ˜‰ I was entertained throughout the entire movie.

Male lead, Nicholas Hoult is such a sight for sore eyes. Instant cure. Lol!Β Jack The Giant KillerNo. He’s not the smoking hot kinda hot, but more like the dorky, geeky & nerdy kinda hot. He’s got that certain charm about him that draws you in, focuses your attention wholly on him.Β jack_the_giant_slayer_nicholas_houltI know he looks a little ‘lack-of-hair’ here, but damn, he is good looking. And he brings out that ‘geeky dorky adorable’ character really well. I first notice Hoult when he was in ‘X-Men : First Class’, as Beast.nicholas-hoult-xmen-1Fell for his nerdy-glasses look. My first thought when I saw him in that movie was, “Ooooo, cute~!” My first thought when I saw him again here in Jack The Giant Slayer is, “Holy sh*t! He’s adorably good looking~!”

So, I decided to look him up on Google and see how he looks like in his real life. No character to play, nothing. Just plain Nicholas Hoult. And my my, may I just say, this boy cleans up well. He can go from geeky cute to drop dead gorgeous.Nicholas+Hoult-1Gosh! When I first saw this, I forgot how to breathe for a couple of seconds. Would you look at those eyes! They come in second to Jensen Ackles’ emerald green eyes. πŸ˜‰ Now we have another young and hot actor in Hollywood. I foresee that this fella may just land himself quite a couple of memorable roles in the future. πŸ™‚

Anyways, coming back, female lead Eleanor Tomlison is not stunningly attractive in my opinion. But she has that air of elegance that it fitting for her role as a princess.eleanor-tomlinson-jack-the-giant-slayer Even when she’s captured and all dirt up, she still makes it believable as a princess. A down to earth princess.

Then there’s Ewan McGregor whose memorable performance left a lasting impression even though it was a minor role.Β Ewan-McGregor-in-Jack-the-Giant-SlayerHe looks kinda funny with that spiky hair and goatee. Especially that goatee. Lol. But his portrayal of noble and loyal leader of the king’s elite guards, with a side of a ‘smart-ass mouth’ and sarcasm, made it’s mark in the audiences’ minds. And the best part of this movie is seeing McGregor rolled up like a pork roll!Β jackewanpastryI mean come on! How many times do you get to see Hollywood heartthrob McGregor rolled up as a pork roll???jack-giant-slayer-ewan-mcgregor-pigsIt’s kinda priceless, if you ask me. πŸ˜‰

Moving from humans to giants, I thought the head of the giants Falon, is not as scary as his follower, Fumm, who later betrayed him and took over as a leader. Falon, played by Bill Nighy and John Kassir is bordering on funnily evil, hence reducing its ‘menace points’.Β jack-the-giant-slayer-fallonThe ‘little head’ makes Falon less scary, if you ask me. He’s just so funny most of the times. Reactions and expressions. As compared to Fumm.Β jackthegiantslayer-fummNow, seeing Fumm gives me a feeling like the ones I feel when I’m watching the orcs from The Lord Of The Rings, even though they don’t look alike at all. πŸ˜‰

All in all, a really good and entertaining show. I’d definitely buy a copy and keep, so I can watch again in the future. Great storyline, interesting characters and good looking male lead. Hello, I AM a girl afterall. Male leads do affect my opinion, even if its only a little. πŸ˜‰ And I feel like a kid again when I watched the beanstalk grew up to the heavens!Β jack-the-giant-slayer-2I imagined it to be big when I was a kid, but never that huge! And it’s nice to feel like a kid again, once in a long while. πŸ™‚
