Cemetery Dance by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

20130918-002617.jpgBeen a long while since I wrote a book review. That is simply cause I haven’t been reading much until bout 2-3 months ago. Feels good to pick up an old hobby again. 😉

I’ve never read anything from these two authors before, but I’m glad I gave this book a shot. Very interesting read. To give a brief synopsis, a couple was attacked and the husband was murdered. Neighbours and also the security camera showed the killer leaving the scene to be a guy living in the same apartment building. But here’s the catch, the man that the people witnessed as the murderer was found dead, after an apparent suicide, two weeks before the attack.

Right from the first few pages, the story drew me into its world. I love how the authors managed to quickly make the reader be somewhat emotionally attached to the couple who were attacked, right from the beginning. Also love all the twists and turns in the storyline. There were also a number of spooky parts that were very well written. I guess I shouldn’t say ‘parts’ but more like the situations and scenes that unfold in the story were derived from very simple and normal stuff that it made it very easy to imagine the horror happening in real life. The authors did a great job in describing each scene, making it really easy to picture the flow of the story as if its a movie playing in your mind. The descriptions were not overdone to the point that it became draggy, like that of Under The Dome by Stephen King.

Gotta say the ending was a little of a surprised, but I guess that’s what makes a good story. 😉

Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

FastandFurious6-teaserposterBeen looking forward to this for a while now. Finally caught it in the cinema almost 2 weeks ago. Great great show. I don’t know whether to say that it’s better than the 5th installment, but even if its not, it’s just about as good as that one. Though I think personally, I may prefer the 5th movie a tad bit more, but really, not much difference. 😉 Action-packed from beginning till the end, as usual, keeping the audience at the edge of their seats almost the entire time.

I’m not sure if its just me, but Vin Diesel seemed more and more ‘bulky’ as the installments of the movie progress. And I’m not necessarily saying it in too good a way. Fast And Furious 6I mean, I get it, guys love to make themselves look buff, and as much as I’d like to say that Vin Diesel’s built is great, I can’t help but notice that his muscles aren’t really defined. Thus, making him look a little flabby and chunky, instead of buff. No? Don’t get me wrong. I like watching Vin Diesel. Great actor. But I think maybe he needs to tense his muscles when he’s wearing sleeveless tops, if not he’ll just look chunky, which is not really sexy or hot. Really. Lol! 😉 Then again, just when you start thinking, “Oh, Vin Diesel looks chunky!”, there’ll be those scenes that he looks considerably good in. Fast And Furious 6Must be the angle then. 😉 But really, tensing the muscles and maybe conditioning them more will improve the consistency of the, “Ooooo… Not baaadddd!” thoughts. 😉 Haha! And the funny thing is, while Vin Diesel seemed to grow, Paul Walker seemed to shrink in size. Or maybe its just those old man clothes they put him in. If I remember correctly, he’s got a pretty hot bod, hence, more body fitting clothes should definitely be encouraged. 😛 Seems like Walker has a little less screen time this time around. But I guess it doesn’t affect the show much.

Speaking of muscles, who in the world can miss Dwayne Johnson. This guy just keeps growing bigger and bigger! Fast And Furious 6I swear if he grows any bigger, he can audition for the role of the Hulk and the FX team don’t even need to do anything. All they need is the wardrobe department painting him green and it’ll be enough. The Hulk. I mean, I can’t help but gaped at him when he appeared on screen. As much as I’m not a fan of big huge body builders (I personally prefer athletic built bodies), I can’t help but think, “Damn Vin Diesel, that’s how muscles are supposed to look like!” Lol! He’s ripped from head to toe! Coming back to the movie, I actually like the bromance chemistry between Hobs (Johnson) and Toretto (Vin Diesel) more than that of O’Conner (Walker) and Toretto. 😉

The tough looking lady next to Johnson in the picture above is Gina Carano who plays Riley Hicks, the good girl who’s actually not so good afterall. *hint* 😉 I actually didn’t really like her from the beginning of the show. But I gotta say, that’s probably cause she’s got pretty good acting skills. She made her character believable, making you like her and dislike her at the right time. Makes sense? Haha. Anyways, I looked her up, since I’ve never seen her before and it turns out that she’s actually a mixed martial artiste! Not to mention a fitness model too. Oh wow. That explains her size as a healthy fit lady as compared to most of Hollywood’s stick thin model bodies. And really, I think that should be the image we encourage people to be, healthy and fit, not skinny and stick thin.gina-carano-sexy-02gina-carano-600x406 I may not like her character in the show, but I sure find myself impressed by her real life. I mean, tough chicks who can do real martial arts are hot.

And speaking of the ladies, it’s nice to have Letty, who was presumed dead, back.Fast And Furious 6Not your typical Hollywood beauty, but Michelle Rodriguez definitely got a certain charm about her. She plays Letty really well, as she did in the first movie. Thought her character, Letty, fits Vin Diesel’s Toretto much better than the other girls, namely Elena, who was portrayed by Elsa Pataky. ElenaI actually find Pataky really sexy in the movie. Not exactly the girly sexy, but really, the confident sexy. Know what I mean. She’s got that air of superiority and confidence that exudes elegance, even while playing only a police officer. I guess I mostly prefer the proper girl with character look, than a pretty girly bimbo look. Know what I mean? 😉 Anyways, she’s 36 and looking great! I was Googling her and came across this picture. Chris & Elsa & babyHow cute is her kid????? Then again, what do you expect from a baby whose parents are Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth. Seriously. I gotta say though, as good as she looks in the movie, her latest hairstyle adds such an edge to her look that she can easily surpass many of those actresses who are 10 years younger than her. Elsa-PatakyThis look makes me wanna go and crop my hair off, just like her. Looks good, no? 🙂

Was a little disappointed in Gal Gadot. I seem to remember her as being a little sexier in the 5th installment. fast-and-furious-6-gal-gadotBut her character, Gisele is just as sassy and saucy as I remembered. 😉 Loved how they gave a little more focus on Gisele’s relationship with her now steady boyfriend, Han, who caught my attention in the 5th movie. Hehe! But sadly, the actor who played him, Sung Kang, doesn’t seem that attractive this time around. fast-furious6-sung-kangHe still puts a smile on my face sometimes, but yeah, not that attractive anymore, I feel. 😉 Oh well, our taste changes as time passes right? 😉

Seeing Luke Evans was a surprised to me. fast-and-furious-6-luke-evansBut he does the bad guy pretty well. This time around, he doesn’t remind me of Orlando Bloom anymore. I remembered when I saw him in The Three Musketeers, I almost mistook him for Bloom. But with this crew cut, it’s easier to tell them apart. Or maybe its just me who thinks they look alike. 😛

Anyways, great show. Action packed, one of my favourite types. I definitely won’t mind watching is again. And again. And again. And just for those who don’t know, this is the chronology of the F&F movies – F&F 1, F&F 2, F&F 4, F&F 5, F&F 6, F&F 3. So now, I’m anticipating the 7th show! It’ll be a follow-up from the 3rd Fast & Furious movie.

And a lesson from this movie? thrown off tankIt’s romantic to jump off your car to save your love interest who is being flung off a tank………… provided you really manage to catch her. 😛 Okay. Truth be told, I find this stunt a little too exaggerated and it makes me think it’s silly. LOL!

House At The End Of The Street

Watched this show last weekend. My first thought when I heard the title from Mich was that it’s a horror genre show. But I was wrong. It’s actually more of a action-thriller movie. Not that we have a choice anyway. It was the only show everyone could settle on. And I really don’t care what show we watch, as long as we watch a show. It’s been almost one and a half months since I last went into the cinema for a movie, due to church and family activities. Heh. 😉

Not particularly impressed. But not too bad a storyline. It is actually quite interesting, but somehow, I find the climax not impactful enough. Maybe it’s cause there’s not enough built-up towards the climax. It definitely doesn’t fry your brains like Inception, heh, but still quite a good watch. Love the twist in the story about the ‘hidden sister‘.

Main actress Jennifer Lawrence performed averagely okay, in my opinion. Though, I heard she did a great job in The Hunger Games. I’m not sure cause, yes, I haven’t watch The Hunger Games. I am intending, soon. With blonde coloured hair (she had brunette in Hunger Games), it kinda makes her a lot more bimbo-ish. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying all blondes are bimbos. Heck, there are tons out there rocking the look, smart and tough. But I guess, with Jennifer Lawrence, the look sorta reduces her toughness. And in actual fact, her face is really pretty but, somehow, there seems to be something missing. Can’t really put my finger to what the thing is. Chiet agrees with me. She looks pretty if you see properly, but when you just look, it doesn’t captures the attention. Heh. Sad to say, even with dirt covering her and a gun in her hand, she don’t look tough enough for the character the movie is trying to portrays. There’s just some element missing. Checked out her look in Hunger Games, and I gotta say I’m impressed. Can’t wait to watch that and compare her performance then and now.

Male lead, Max Thieriot, did a pretty good job though. He’s the bad guy in the show. Supposedly. Actually, more like the guy ‘forced’ to turn bad.And am saying that he’s pretty good cause he made the audience believe he’s the bad guy, but yet, not dislike him. It’s believable that most of his good intentions are sincere and pure. Truth be told, I hated the 3 jocks who are school bullies much more than Thieriot’s character, Ryan.
These 3 got what they deserve. Trust me. Heh.

It’s funny that when we saw Elissa Cassidy’s (played by Lawrence) mother, Chiet leaned over and told me, “The mum also hotter than the daughter.” I don’t blame him. Given that yes, she may look old, but she still has that charm around her.It took me a while to recognize her, but then it hits me. Elisabeth Shue. No wonder she has that charm that even young guys like Chiet can say she’s somewhat hot, when she’s already kinda old. 😉

Not too bad a watch in the cinema. But definitely not a show I’d go way out to recommend people to watch. =)

The series that made me go ‘goo goo-gaa gaa’ over celebrities. Again. At 26 years old. Damn, I just can’t help it. I know am way over the age of celebrity crushes. But Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki & Misha Collins just break down any ‘adulthood matured-ness’ that I had and turn me into a teenage girly girl all over again. Haha.

Won’t say that this is a particularly famous series, unlike Smallville, or Lost, or Criminal Minds. Still pretty popular, but speaking in a sense of relativity. That was what I thought anyway. Not until I got hooked onto it, that I search details online and realized, damn, they have a huge fan base on the net. Like literally huge.

The stories and mysteries in Supernatural, as the title states, is based on all the Supernatural myths, lore and beliefs in our world. Story surrounds the 2 Winchester brothers who’s mother was killed mysteriously when they were kids. Since then, they and their father has been going around, hunting ‘things’, evil things, as they try to solve the mystery around their mother’s death. As the seasons expanded to the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th season the story develops and grows into quite an interesting plot. Angels, demons, the devil, ghosts, werewolves, vampires, witches, cults, etc etc comes into plot. Famous names included Michael & Gabriel, the archangels and Lucifer, the devil. Don’t really like the way they portray some of the angels as being bad. But hey, whatever makes the story interesting? =)

As serious and dark as the series sounds, there are lots of humourous elements in every single episode. And the characters’ development just makes anyone fall for them. Lol. Well, me. Haha. Bear in mind, I am biased. Hee. =)

Jensen Ackles plays older brother Dean Winchester. A character that is kinda rough-tough ‘Texas’-ish. Witty. Manly. Hot. Make that major hot. And sexy. Love his husky, Texas slang. Absolutely loving it. And even with blood and dirt on him, he looks so desirable. Haha!

Jared Padalecki plays younger brother, Sam Winchester. A more ‘refine’ man, but well, when the action scenes come on, he’s just about as tough as his brother Dean. But here, Sam’s supposed to be the slightly more educated brother, getting himself away from ‘hunting’ and hitting college for bout 2 years before returning to ‘hunting’ when his girlfriend was killed in exactly the same way as his mum.

Misha Collins plays the ‘angel of the Lord’, Castiel. He only started appearing in the series in Season 4, and have been a recurring or regular character in all the following series. Absolutely love the way Castiel keeps a straight face everytime he’s on screen. Talking with a straight face, not much intonations when speaking, though not bland. Everytime he speaks, its like with so much intensity. And there’s just something bout his eyes. Haha.

Then there’s old man fellow hunter, Bobby Singer, played by actor Jim Beaver. He may be old, but quite a heck of a hunter. Love all his witty sarcastic comeback lines. And its sweet how he cares for the Winchester boys like they’re his own. Flicking between recurring roles and as a regular, Bobby Singer has found himself a place in almost all Supernatural’s fans’ heart. Well, kinda. Of course after Dean, Sam and Castiel. Heh.

After watching 6 seasons of this series, there are some season regulars or recurring roles that stood out and added a whole lot of chemistry into the series. One of them being character Ruby, a hot demon chick. Considering the fact that demons can possess humans, Ruby was played by Katie Cassidy in Season 3 and Genevieve Cortese (who happens to be Jared’s wife in real life) in Season 4. I personally prefer blonde haired ‘Katie Cassidy’ Ruby to brunette haired ‘Genevieve Cortese’ Ruby. Much hotter and with a cheeky spunky edge. But then, after watching it for a while, Cortese ain’t too bad. But still prefer Cassidy though. Heh. Ruby’s character is one hell of a twist towards the end of season 4. Interesting though.

Another angel that made to one of the top spots is the archangel, Gabriel, who actually ran down to earth to avoid the fights between his brothers in heaven. Taking up the place of a Trickster, Gabriel sure gave the Winchester brothers a handful to handle. But when he fessed up later in the series and reveal his true identity of being the archangel Gabriel, he suddenly seems more serious, and heroic as he stands up against his fallen brother, Lucifer. He started to have that charm around him, siding the Winchester brothers.

Demon number 2, Meg Masters. Again, played by 2 different actress, Nicki Aycox and Rachel Miner. I have to say though, the character Meg is more appealing in the later seasons, seeming to turn into a ‘kinda’ good demon. Played by Rachel Miner, Meg seems to have a little something something for Castiel in the later seasons. Interesting. And sweet.

Then there’s the mother-daughter pair, Ellen and Jo, portrayed by Samantha Ferris and Alona Tal. Though not many appearances, this pair made a lasting impact on people who watches Supernatural. Would have loved for them to remain in the series, but sadly they got killed off in Season 5 of the series. I really like the spunk Ellen and Jo had. And the cute way the few times Dean and Jo flirted. And I actually think Alona Tal is pretty hot. She’s like the tough version of Taylor Swift. Heh.

There’s also one more important ‘character’ in this series. Heck its not outright important, but its the unconscious kind. The Winchester’s car. The Impala! I’ve never really have much appreciation for old classic car until I watched this series. The Impala looks so classic and cool. Or maybe it was the boys that made it cool Hehe.If you ask me, the boys suit the Impala perfectly. And I love the way how they always have an ice-box of beer on all their road trips. So hot! Lol!

What makes this series so addictive and awesome besides the storylines and mysteries, to me, is the chemistry between the characters. Top on the list, the brothers Dean and Sam. Other than being a pair of really hot looking brothers, their protectiveness and care for each other is just heart warming. The closeness they shared touches every heart that watches the show. Their willingness to sacrifice their own lives for the other brother’s safety is truly touching. The pain and tears shed when either brother are in mortal danger or died (yes died, though resurrected soon after) is heart wrenching. Though, brothers will be brothers. They have their silly, funny and humourous moments getting on each other’s nerves and squabbling with each other.Their various facial expression is priceless. From serious faced, to smirking, to silly, to amused, to eye-rolling, etc etc. Simply lovely. Lol! Jensen and Jared made it real believable that they are brothers.

And when Castiel was added to the cast, well, twosome just became threesome. What started out as just an angel in charged of the boys, Castiel quickly becomes like family to them, and would do all he can to help and protect the boys. As would the boys for him. Castiel’s lack of knowledge on human’s ways sometimes creates really funny scenes. Good example? Erm, a scene where he questions the brothers on porn. I think I nearly died laughing.

Throw Bobby in together with them, and we have a fabulous team of good guys. Heh. Perfect team. Dean and ‘his rough-tough sexy cowboy’ attitude. Sam and his witty comebacks. Castiel, the powerful angel and his innocence with human life. Bobby and his funny sarcastic remarks. The chemistry between these characters just oozed out from every corners of the television. Heh.

After 6 seasons of Supernatural, safe to say, am now a huge huge fan of the series. And I love the song played at the beginning of every finale of every season, ‘Carry On My Wayward Son’ by Kansas. Classic!

Oh, and here’s a little something that made me go aawww… One and off in the series, Sam or Dean will flash back during their younger years. And here’s them, with the kids who play little Dean and little Sam. Pretty alike, don’t ya think ? *melts*

The Woman In Black

Was deciding between this show or the ‘Devil Inside’ movie. But since Alan said the latter one sucked, hence me, Mich, Chiet and Boo Leong decided to go for Woman In Black instead. Kinda looked forward to it, for 2 reasons. One, cause I wanted the adrenaline rush, the fright, just for fun. Haha. Two, Daniel Radcliffe is starring in it. Not that am a huge fan of Radcliffe. But, I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. See the connection here? Haha!

Really like the new more matured looking Daniel Radcliffe seen in the movie. The slight unshaven beard, the slightly dark serious look. If he hasn’t been carved into my mind so strongly as Harry Potter, I’d even say his new looks is somewhat sexy. Haha! But I’d give him this, he IS good looking here. =) However, me seeing him full length in any scene still makes me feel that he’s just a young boy. Just Harry.  Maybe its his height. Yes, he looks short. Haha! I don’t know. Heh. But many times in the movie, it crossed my mind. OMG, he looks like a boy here! Lol. Not his face looks, but as in, a whole package. He just looks so young. Lol!

But his 4 year old son in the movie (yes, he has a 4 year old son in the movie!!!), is just cute beyond words!! Misha Handley is just adorable beyond words here. But to me, he just looks like Radcliffe’s younger brother instead of his four year old son, no? Haha!

Overall though, the plot and storyline here ain’t bad. And the suspense really stress me out throughout the movie. I won’t rate it as a really scary horror film, cause really, its not that scary, not really anyway. Haha. But the suspense in the night scenes at the abandon haunted mansion made me jump a couple of times in my seat. Lol. Thank God there’s Chiet and Boo Leong crapping stuff to make it a lighter mood. Haha! One of the scary scenes to me was the one involving the rocking chair. Freaky! And another one. The ‘thing’ behing Radcliffe through the window. Made us jump when the camera suddenly zoomed towards Radcliffe and that ‘thing’ behind him. Lol! And of course, there were the freaky looking toys too. One of it being a clown or something like that. These toys really add the ‘fear’ factor for me. Somehow, someway. Heh.

But all in all, its a pretty above average movie. Won’t rate it really good, neither average. Its just above average. Worth my cinema ticket anyway. Definitely won’t buy a copy of the show to keep though. Haha!

Did a little research and realized something really amazing. Relatively speaking. The role of Radcliffe here as Arthur Kips, in the original movie, in 1989, was played by Adrian Rawlins a.k.a. Harry Potter’s  father, Mr. James Potter. What are the odds huh? ‘Father and son’, ending up the same role, 23 years apart. =)

Ghost Rider : Spirit Of Vengence

Fairly disappointing. Especially when I’ve been looking forward to watch this since hearing news of the Ghost Rider sequel nearly a year ago. The plot, the effects, the characters, all didn’t really live up to expectations. Some funny loop-holes here and there.

Johnny Blaze, played by Nicholas Cage, over here seem a little lunatic in general. The moments when he looks absolutely ‘out-of-control looney’ kinda takes the coolness out of the character. Yup. That’s what I mean. Really prefer him in the first show. Even when he become the Ghost Rider, he still seems looney.

See? =.=”

Even the Ghost Rider’s bike looks trashy here. Neh.
As compared to the bike in the first movie.Cool right? Mega cool.

The only part I liked about this movie is when the kid imagine how the Ghost Rider would pee. Ultimate flamethrower! LOL!
